Matera, it was beyond anything I could have imagined!

Where did I start out from…”from a house that personally belongs to me, from an idea and from a vision”.
My son, Federico, says that I was a visionary.
Then I longed to live in that house in the Sassi and give my guests the chance
“to experience living in a historical monument.”.
This was made possible thanks both to Law 77/86 and the Municipality of Matera which granted sub-concession of buildings in the Sassi district to private citizens in order to undertake restoration and conservation work on them.
One had to have the imagination and love necessary to envision what these buildings would end up becoming after their attentive renovation. Today it houses the Residence San Pietro Barisano and its restaurant, one of Matera’s very first restoration projects of this sort, which opened its doors in 2003. Looking onto the square of the Church of San Pietro Barisano and the Natural Historic Archaeological Regional Park of the Rupestrian Churches of the Matera Region, the residence offers a breathtaking view and is centrally located, yet extremely private.
